The land of high places, where the Andes begin! Venezuela is at the top end of South America, its coastline lapped by the Caribbean. Journey up into the mountains to visit traditional villages, take an adventurous step into the ‘lost world’ of the Canaima National Park and see the world’s highest waterfall, and visit Mérida to ride the world’s longest and highest cable car.
There is an incredible variety of tropical wildlife in this area, including monkeys, poison arrow frogs and hundreds of species of orchids. Mammals in the area are generally difficult to spot but they include giant anteaters, armadillos, porcupines, three-toed sloths, otters, jaguars, pumas, tapirs and capybaras. Some of the birds that you may see are the king vulture, paradise tanager, white bellbird, Cock-of-the Rock, musician wren, great kiskadee, bananaquit, velvet browned brilliant, capuchinbird, sooty-capped hermit, blue-cheeked parrot, and many others.
The Orinoco Delta covers an enormous area of wetland; rivers and channels covering an area of 30,000 km2. The Delta is fed by the Orinoco river all 2,140 km of her. The wildlife found here is quite spectacular; sloths, howler monkeys, capuchin monkeys, tapirs, opossums, jaguars, ocelots, giant otters, river dolphins and Orinoco pink river dolphins. In addition to the mammals there are a large variety of birds, the most common being: macaws, several species of toucans, parrots, hoatzin and, for the very fortunate, harpy eagle.

South America Travel Centre can look after all aspects of your holiday, including flights and travel insurance.
We start by asking you what your interests are and where you are interested in, when, for how long, what standard and style of accommodation (it can be a combination – for example you may wish to celebrate a special occasion while you’re away by staying in a very special property or place). Once we have a good understanding of just what you’re looking for, we can begin to create a holiday to meet your time and budget requirements and, most importantly, that will deliver interest and enjoyment in an experience to exceed your expectations.
Please book early. Many of the hotels, lodges and cruise vessels we recommend are relatively small. This exclusivity combined with high demand means they can be booked out up to 6-8 months in advance.
If you’re thinking of travelling during any major holidays like Christmas, New Year and Easter, or during any festivals, our advice is simply to book as early as you can, even 12 months or more, and we can add flights as soon as they become available.
Australian citizens do not require a visa to enter Venezuela. You will need to hold a valid passport and have a return ticket when you arrival.
