Patagonia – Torres del Paine ESTANCIA CERRO GUIDO

Rachel Callus – March 2025
Specialist Travel Consultant – South America Travel Centre

After her Antarctic cruise Rachel made a long-awaited return to Torres del Paine National Park (her last visit as a back-packer was in 2002).

ESTANCIA CERRO GUIDO

Rachel stayed at a couple of properties, one of which was Estancia Cerro Guido (operated by the same company that runs Patagonia Camp).
Cerro Guido is a working Estancia (farm) with a heritage dating back to 1906.  In the mid-nineteenth century 300 sheep were brought onto the Estancia from the Falkland Islands; today the Estancia has 19,000 sheep.

Estancia Cerro Guido accommodation

Excellent, locally sourced, meals

The accommodation is comfortable, the food excellent (and a lot of it is home grown) and the location stunning.

After her stays at Estancia Cerro Guido and at Tierra Patagonia one of Rachel’s comments was – ‘four nights is just not long enough.’

‘Torres Del Paine and the surrounding region has so much to offer.  You could easily spend 6, or more, nights split between two properties and still not cover everything the region has to offer.’

Estancia Cerro Guido is open year-round.  Winter is a magical time to be in the area; and spotting Pumas is a little easier given the blanket of snow, half and full day conservation safaris are offered where you’ll get to check-out camera traps, meet the dogs that help protect the sheep (and Pumas) as well as head out in search of all of the region’s wildlife.

In 2019 Cerro Guido launched a foundation to find a way to make livestock farming compatible with the conservation of biodiversity.

Just as with many other properties in, or near, Torres del Paine, a range of activities are offered by Cerro Guido.
E-bike trips, horse rides, fly-fishing, conservation Safaris, full and half day tours and treks – the choice is yours.  They Estancia also offers a full day tour of the Estancia – as a working farm you’ll get a glimpse of a gaucho’s way of life.
