Incomparable Location

Explora El Chaltén is incomparably located in the 14,000-acre Los Huemules Conservation Reserve, on the banks of the Eléctrico River and under the massive Marconi Glacier. The lodge is accessible to nearby Los Glaciares National Park and is an ideal base camp for exploring the Southern Patagonian Ice Field.

Excursions for All

Explore the Los Glaciares National Park, Los Huemules Conservation Reserve, and the famed Desert Lake through more than 30 different guided explorations. There are a range of full and half day experiences, including opportunities to bike, hike, and climb. Each adventure is designed for a small group of no more than eight and is customised to your interests and fitness level.

Standard Rooms

There are 17 Standard Rooms at Explora El Chaltén, each with breathtaking views of the Patagonian forest. Each measuring 36 metres squared, the rooms feature beautiful wood finishings, large windows to let in the stunning surroundings, and a king size or two twin beds.

Suites

There are only three Suites at Explora El Chaltén. Each is a spacious 60 square metres with stunning views of the Patagonian forest. The suites are furnished tastefully, featuring a king or twin bed configuration, a sitting area, as well as a bathroom with shower and luxurious toiletries.

MIRADOR FITZ ROY

HIKE | MODERATE | FULL DAY

Take a van from the lodge to the Los Glaciares National Park, where you will cross the forests to get a great view of the Los Andes Mountain Range’s massifs. On clear days, watch Mount Fitz Roy and the Agujas Mermoz and Poincenot in all their glory. Finally, reach the viewpoint to Mount Fitz Roy, with a unique perspective of this rock formation and all the mountains around it.

RIO ARRIBA

OVERLAND | EASY | HALF-DAY

Leave by van northward toward the Laguna del Desierto Provincial Reserve, passing beautiful waterfalls that are formed thanks to the Las Vueltas River Valley’s geography. Cross the nothofagus rainforest until you reach the Lake of the Desert lookout point, which offers a great panoramic view of the lake, the mountains that surround it and their glaciers.

RESERVA VESPIGNIANI

OVERLAND | EASY | FULL DAY

Take the van from the lodge to the southern tip of Lago del Desierto. From there, navigate for about 30 minutes to the Vespigniani Nature Reserve, where you can walk along a low difficulty path through the forest of the least known areas of El Chaltén. On the way back, see the valley surrounded by woody mountains and, in the background, Mount Fitz Roy.

RÍO DE LAS VUELTAS

PACK RAFT | MODERATE | HALF-DAY

Follow the Río de las Vueltas by pack raft, descending from areas near the lodge to the surroundings of Estancia Bonanza. If clouds allow, the Fitz Roy Massif appears on the horizon as you navigate past riverside forests and the silent presence of aquatic birds. The river takes shape from a network of streams that carry glacial meltwater down from the heights, linking the ice with the southern valleys.

CONEXIÓN VERTICAL

CLIMBING | EASY | HALF-DAY

El Chaltén is one of the best places in the world for rock climbing. Explora will provide a rock climbing briefing that covers the main places to climb in El Chaltén, history, how to control your body, and the importance of trusting partners.

VALLE ELÉCTRICO

HIKE | MODERATE | FULL DAY

Walk from the lodge to enter a forest of lenga and ñirre trees, with the company of native birds in their habitat. The splashing of the Eléctrico River will follow along faithfully during the entire exploration, as you enjoy the contrasting views offered by the valley’s glaciers and hills.
